    The do
The dog will require a handler 24/7. That could be the pilot but that pilot will be considered on duty when walking the dog for required pee breaks, for professional grooming, for recurrent training which happens much more frequently than pilots' sim checks, for veterinary check-ups, and some other duties outside of flying. Then the dog's union will limit duty time to 8 hours which rules out long-haul flights. The pilot can not fly during the dog's initial training which takes a year or more. The dog is tied to that specific pilot for the duration of it's service life. It's service life has a mandatory retirement age, in dog years of course. Ask any K-9 handler- it's cheaper to just hire a second pilot.
