Passengers on board a flight from Beijing to Poland were asked to fund the repairs on a fault so the plane could take off.

There were around 250 passengers on the LOT Polish Airlines flight when the Boeing 787 Dreamliner suffered a hydraulic pump fault, according to local media.

They were asked to foot the bill after the mechanic who had been employed to fix the pump demanded that he would only take cash as payment.

I've heard of 4th world airlines demanding Pax to pay cash money sitting in their seats for fuel a few times in the past. Don't hear anything like that anymore. I wonder what this AP's organs will bring on the market now.

As I consider the source of the article, UK's version of National Enquirer, I'm reminded that some airlines have bad credit.
I suspect there is more to the story.

Interesting, a 280 million dollar airliner and they get some mechanic to work on it and then he wants cash?

I wonder if he signed off th repair with his real name;)

That was my thought as well. The mechanic believed that this was the only way that he would get paid.

No aircraft mechanics in China are self-employed.
International wire transfers take up to 36 hours.
A physical credit card was likely not presented.
The airline likely does not have an agreement in place with that MRO for borrowing parts.
Since the airline wanted their plane released immediately, it had to be cash only.
Starting to see the Bravo Sierra bias in the article?
Heck... LOT was lucky to even find the part in Beijing....
