I decided to skip class on Tuesday to ride backseat with a couple friends on a cross-country flight over to Midway! I'd never been there before, so I enjoyed being able to experience how busy the whole airspace was before I try to fly in myself. The views during the flight were great, and we got to fly in the clouds for quite a while.

Chicago center was very helpful getting us in, and they didn't seem to mind too much that we were cutting in-between jets landing. Maybe our 150kt (full throttle and no flaps) approach made us easier to work with:D, even though that's still slower than everyone else.

Japanese barbeque in downtown Chicago was also quite a treat.

    Nice panel!
How hard is it to type on the keypad in turbulence?

Oh it's great! I've only flown in light turbulence so nothing too bad, but the rubber keys make it pretty easy. I was looking at the new touchscreens on the Garmin displays that Cirrus is putting in their 2017T models, and those look like they'll be a lot more of a problem. Kind of like when you try to text while walking, autocorrect fixes all the wrong letters but the FMS won't. :[]

Also Avidyne has it set up that if the keyboard itself ever stops working, there is a secondary input method for the radio frequencies and letters with the knobs and buttons on the two sides of the PFD and MFD. It'll take longer than the keyboard but will work just as well.
