FAA has issued an emergency AD requiring an ultrasonic inspection of all fan blades on CFM-56-7B engines. The AD takes effect immediately. The AD was issued because of another catistrofic failure of this engine on a Southwest 737 in less then 2 years.

There are currently 6,700 aircraft flying with this engine. If a defectis found the Blade is required to be changed. The CFM-56-7B engine has the capability of it's fan blades being removed without removing the engine from the aircraft.

Fan blade removal and install Procedures AFM-56-7B

    Fan blade install

    Fan blade removal

It should be noted the fan blades are very expensive. They must be produced under strict procedures with checks by the manufacture and government to maintain quality control.

Refurbishing fan blades are a Hugh business totaling world wide into Billions of dollars. The cost of refurbishment is 80% cheaper then buying a new blade. Again strict quality control must be maintained and the paper work trail of each refurbished blade is critical to airworthiness of the blade. Bogus parts are a big problem and unaworthy parts are reinstalled back into engines at a alarming rate by unapproved Maintnenance, repair and overhaul facilities MRO's overseas in third world countries.

The FAA Emergency AD should include an investigation into checking the provenance of a rejected blade to be sure it was not a bogus unaworthy part with fake documentation!!

Time will tell........Bogus parts are increasing.!!!

...well, dip me in axle grease and call me slick! The "regulator" either had the AD already written out, or they realized they made a mistake two years ago. Or, maybe, they know the "biggly one" expects results serving the tax payers. Either way, hopefully, all the bad parts will be twkta out of service before another catastrophic incident happens!

Remember, 2 yrs ago Obozo told Huerta to forget everything else, sh!t can all the 3,400 qualified, dedicated and vested ATC candidates, change the procedure to allow minority burger flippers to get ATC training instead(another of his resounding failures) in his never ending quest to destroy the USA from within.:mad:o_O
