I have sometime flying in 421’s. While in the FAA I was the POI for an operaTor that used one in their charter operation. I gave check rides and flew aboard this type aircraft.

It is a maintenance intensive aircraft and had a pair of geared engines. The loss of an engine in flight on most cabin class twins is a serious situation and in some cases the aircraft could not maintain flight at certain temperatures and weight!

Pilot training is important and if the pilot is a little rusty on his single engine procedures it could lead to disaster.

The usual investigation will take place by the NTSB and in about a year the probable cause will come out and life will go on.

What can the FAA do to prevents these accidents?

    NOTHING!o_O
