The world's scariest airplane landing--or coolest, depending on who you ask--happens when KLM flies its Boeing 747 flight into St. Maarten's Princess Juliana International Airport. For years crowds have gathered on Maho Beach to watch the four-engine jumbo jet barely clear the sand before landing at the Caribbean airport.

A sad day. Will we ever see an A380 on the ramp?

I doubt it. I think the 747 was the biggest aircraft that St. Maarten had the capacity for.

It would make for an exciting arrival though, wouldn't it? Those insisting on standing behind the engines on the takeoff spoolup might be in for a bit of surprise.

Went there about 15 years ago, my wife thought it was crazy, me and all the other people standing there. she stayed in the rental car while I basked in the glory of flight.

That is true. They might end up way out in the ocean, instead of just being blown onto the beach.

Well, it would be a "takeoff" of a different kind! No boarding card, TSA, screening, nor the stress of an airport :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D...

Global attention to this flight. A bit of spit and polish goes a long way in marketing one's product.

We got to see that 'live' on the beach two years ago! What a BLAST! :D

The wide-bodys (A-340 also) fly in from Europe but when they fly out, they fly a short leg to another airport that has a longer runway for the much higher weight/fuel for the flights back to Europe.
